Brian MacKenzie Teepell/USPA 24 News - MSC Cruises has officially canceled the 11-night Caribbean and Central American voyage of the MSC Poesia after the vessel was detained by the U.S. Coast Guard at Port of Miami. The ship was held on Sunday, November 1st, 2026, during an expanded inspection where officials identified "deficiencies with systems on board". Unable to resolve the regulatory matters in a timely manner, the cruise line announced the cancellation on Tuesday, November 3rd.
More than 2,000 passengers were already onboard when the ship was detained. MSC Cruises has allowed affected guests to remain on the vessel temporarily while making alternative travel arrangements. However, guests must disembark the ship by 12pm (noon) on Thursday, November 5th, 2026. While passengers rearrange their travel plans onboard, the cruise line is providing complimentary Wi-Fi and support to assist with the journey home.
To make amends for the major disruption to the holiday, MSC Cruises is providing a comprehensive compensation package to all impacted passengers: Full Refund: 100% of the paid cruise fare will be refunded back to the original form of payment, 100% Future Cruise Credit (FCC): Passengers are receiving a future cruise credit equal to 100% of the cruise fare paid for this voyage, and travel assistance. The cruise line is also offering ground and logistical support to assist travelers in getting back home safely.
The ship will remain at the Port of Miami until the deficiencies are completely corrected and cleared by the U.S. Coast Guard. The MSC Poesia's original itinerary was scheduled to visit Jamaica, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Belize.
